Mishawaka, IN - A promise made by a Mishawaka teen continues to live on through a special campaign of giving.
Eric Henry was a senior at Marian High School in Mishawaka when he died in a car accident in February 2002.
Before he passed away, he made a Lenten promise to be more giving. As part of that, Eric gathered up four bags of old clothes to give to St. Vincent's.
To honor Eric's commitment, students at Marian and other schools collect items each day during Lent as part of a program they call Eric's Promise.
Lisa Kochanowski from the St. Vincent de Paul Society says, “We were just blessed by a young man named Eric Henry. He had such a vision. He was this young man who instead of being completely consumed with his own life and trying to find his identity, he decided to take a strong step and do something for somebody else.”
When the program started, five schools were involved. It has since grown to include 12 schools.
A final donation to St. Vincent's will be made at Easter.
